About

Dr. Kaitlin Harkess
Clinical Psychologist

I am an experienced Clinical Psychologist, registered with the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency (AHPRA). I am also an AHPRA Psychology Board-approved supervisor, and I maintain registration with the Australian Psychological Society.

I am trained in providing evidence-based interventions for individuals experiencing chronic stress, struggles with anxiety, depression and mood disorders, trauma, and adjustments to parenthood. I also offer formal ADHD assessments and provide therapeutic support for the struggle that comes with being a neurodiverse individual (i.e., ADHD or Autism) in misaligned environments.

You'll find that in addition to creating a safe and accepting environment, I am entirely passionate about supporting you to cultivate a healthful and meaningful life. Utilising an embodied approach, I provide a range of evidence-based interventions that assist you in enhancing your strengths and overcoming challenges. These interventions include Cognitive-Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Schema Therapy, Eye-Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing (EMDR), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and Mindfulness-based approaches.

In addition to my work in private practice, I worked for many years as a Senior Psychologist in Community Mental Health teams, supporting folks with complex presentations while providing supervision and support to other psychologists. Before this, I completed my clinical training and PhD at the University of Adelaide. where I was awarded First-Class Honours in Health Sciences, and the Australian Psychological Society prize (which recognises performance excellence and is awarded to students who perform at the top of their class), and a Dean’s Commendation for Doctoral Thesis Excellence. I now honour my delight in writing by authoring various mental health resources, including a Somatic Psychology that will be published by PESI Publishing. I am also interested in the role of mind-body practices such as yoga in mental health and am the Convener for the Australian Psychological Society's Psychology and Yoga Interest Group.

In addition to providing counselling and coaching, I offer clinical supervision, consultancy services, workshops, and keynote presentations.

In my down time, I enjoy being outdoors communing with nature and spending time with my beautiful family (proud mumma!), friends and animals. I am a qualified  Meditation Teacher and Senior Yoga Instructor, and I prioritise time in meditation and on my yoga mat – self-care is both helpful and beneficial, when I am balancing my busy schedule!
