Self-Care, Community Care and COVID-19

There is increasing awareness of how we can support our community by slowing the spread of the coronavirus. To support these efforts I am implementing some new procedures to ensure your physical well-being, alongside your emotional well-being.

Firstly, I want to acknowledge the uncertainty in these times. It is normal to feel a degree of worry and concern (particularly when you see the toilet paper shelves at grocery shops or catch the sensationalised headlines of the media). This is why it is so important to try to limit your consumption of unhelpful media and seek out reliable sources.

The Australian Psychological Society (APS) has created this Tips for coping with coronavirus anxiety factsheet that I think is really useful. I particularly like that they include self-care - a nourishing antidote to the worry of these times. Self-care is so important during these times of stress.

In terms of Embodied Psychology:

Face-to-face psychology sessions will continue to be offered, though I am continuing to monitor advise from the Government and the Australian Psychological Society. However, if you are experiencing any illness related symptoms, have recently returned from overseas, or have been in contact with a case of COVID-19, then please let me know so we can make alternative arrangements for your psychology sessions.

I do offer Telehealth sessions, and the Government has introduced new COVID-10 Medicare Telehealth items. This means that I can provide you your sessions virtually (using secure technology) and you can access the Medicare rebate.

I also want to highlight the beautiful community that is being demonstrated in these uncertain times. It is through our implementation of good practices, like being mindful of staying home when we are unwell, washing our hands, and taking care of ourselves that we ultimately keep our vulnerable safe. The fact that we, and so many others, are having conversations around the way we slow the spread of COVID-19 means that we are taking proactive steps to flattening the curve, as depicted in the gif above. Thus we can support our healthcare system in more effectively carry us through this period.

Please reach out if you have any question or concerns, and I will do my best to support you.

Wising you and yours well!
